Blink
… And You’ll Miss It

Why do some musicals
run forever while others flop on their first outing?
Blink!, at the Above the Stag Theatre from 14 July to 16
August, is a newly devised tribute to the shows that closed before you caught
them, from Ragtime and The Scarlet Pimpernel to a musical version of Silence of
the Lambs, which surprisingly never made it to opening night. Remember: even Chicago
and La Cage Aux Folles failed on their first trips to London.

Kentish Town Is
The Star

The Lion and Unicorn
Theatre will play host to the world premiere of a new dance theatre show,
Pop8, featuring video footage of a performance piece filmed
in Kentish Town itself. Fame alumna Antonia Francheschi will lead the members
of Ballet Black to music composed by Zoe Martlew, a recent judge on BBC’s Maestro.
This first project from Giant Olive Theatre Company will run from July 21-31.

Shedding
inhibitions in Tottenham

The Haringey Shed
decamps to the Bernie Grant Arts Centre next Saturday (July 4) for
Shed Stories, a one-off double bill featuring the talents of
the Shed’s children and youth theatres. First up, The Shed Scouts Guide to Camping,
an original piece of musical theatre featuring the younger participants,
followed closely by The Show Must Go On, the
true story of Walter Tull (the first black footballer to play for Spurs), which
forms part of the Story of London Festival.
