Yaël Farber's Mies Julie among Assembly Festival highlights for Edinburgh Fringe

Assembly Festival have announced their programme for this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with highlights including a revival of Yaël Farber's Mies Julie.

Farber's contemporary reworking of August Strindberg’s classic Miss Julie, which played Riverside Studios in 2013, headlines the Baxter Theatre Centre season alongside four other productions showcasing South African work.

Assembly's programme will run across twenty-six temporary performance spaces including the New Town and Assembly Rooms in conjunction with Riverside Studios, as well as George Square Gardens, the Assembly Hall, Checkpoint and the Roxy.

The line-up features 78 international shows from 12 countries, including the NZ at Edinburgh season which returns with the Modern Maori Quartet, Eleanor Bishop’s Jane Doe, and Trick of the Light’s The Road That Wasn’t There. The Korean Season includes drumming show Tago and magic show Snap, as well as physical performance Kokdu: The Soulmate. And The Elephant in the Room forms part of the Edinburgh Indian Season. Other international acts include Australian dance company Djuki Mala and Sweden's Svalbard Company with All Genius All Idiot.

Further highlights include the premiere of Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh’s play Performers, a dark comedy set in '60s London; Seiriol Davies’ How to Win Againts History prior to its transfer to The Young Vic; and Superbolt Theatre return with their hit Jurassic Parks and new show Mars Actually.

In their new writing programme, Soho Theatre present Half Breed by Natasha Marshall; the Almeida brings From the Ground Up, and Greenwich Theatre team up with Culture Clash Theatre with Under My Thumb.

Headlining Assembly's comedy line-up will be Whose Line is it Anyway? with Clive Anderson and Colin Mochrie. The comedy line up also includes stand up from the likes of Al Murray, Jason Byrne, Shappi Khorsandi, Ed Byrne and Reginald D Hunter.

Boris & Sergey return to headline the Omnitorium, which will also include performances from Charlie Baker, Jamie Wood and Gabriella Munoz’s Perhaps Perhaps Quizas.

The spiegeltent will feature Casus Circus with Driftwood; Quebec’s Flip Fabrique's new show Transit; Briefs Factory's Sweatshop and Massaoke.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe will run from 4 to 28 August 2017.
