Christopher Wheeldon's stage adaptation of An American in Paris opened at the Dominion Theatre last night. WhatsOnStage were on hand to chat to the cast and guests to see how it went.

With direction and choreography by Christopher Wheeldon, An American in Paris has music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, and a new book by Craig Lucas.

Based on the Academy Award-winning film starring Gene Kelly, the musical is set in Paris and tells the story of Jerry Mulligan, an American GI trying to make it as a painter in post-war Paris. It includes the hit songs "I Got Rhythm", "'S Wonderful" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me".

In her five star review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton described the show as 'sumptuously beautiful and heartfelt'.
