Toby Stephens will play Dr Martin Dysart in a revival of Equus by Peter Shaffer, directed by Lindsay Posner, at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

The production is a co-production with Theatre Royal Bath and runs in London from 8 May to 27 June, before transferring to Theatre Royal Bath from 13 to 25 July. Further casting is to be announced.

Stephens will take on the role of psychiatrist Martin Dysart, who is assigned to treat a 17-year-old boy responsible for blinding six horses and begins to question the nature of treatment and its consequences. The play premiered in 1973 and has since been revived in the UK and internationally.

Stephens’ theatre credits include productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre, as well as Oslo, Private Lives and A Doll’s House. His screen work includes Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Lost in Space and Black Sails.

The creative team includes set and costume designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Paul Pyant, composer and sound designer Adam Cork and movement director James Cousins.
