Theatre Royal Windsor evacuated due to 'intense' thunderstorm

Audiences were evacuated from the opening night performance of One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Windsor yesterday evening when an 'intense' thunderstorm caused corridors of the theatre and front rows in the auditorium to flood.

The show was suspended as the theatre assessed the damage and directors made the decision to abandon the performance due to safety concerns.

Commenting on the decision, director Robert Miles said: "Our team responded quickly and efficiently to the incident and ensured all audience members were safely escorted out of the auditorium. Our audience were very understanding of the situation and we are grateful for their cooperation.

"Our investigations into what caused the flooding are still ongoing and we are working with the local
engineers to prevent this from happening again. Fortunately, the damage will not affect the
remaining festival performances. We encourage you to come and support your local theatre and the Repertory Festival."

The theatre has since re-opened and will go ahead with tonight's performance of One Man, Two Guvnors. Box Office advisors are contacting attendees of last night's show to offer tickets to other performances.The theatre is encouraging patrons to get in touch if they require more information.

One Man, Two Guvnors runs at the Theatre Royal, Windsor as part of the Windsor Repertory Festival until 11 June.
