Strangers on a Train to return for new tour

A new UK and Ireland tour of Craig Warner’s stage adaptation of Strangers on a Train will kick off early next year.

Based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel, which was also adapted into Alfred Hitchcock’s 1951 film, the production will be directed by Roxana Silbert.

The tour will open at Theatre Royal Windsor on 15 January 2027 before visiting Canterbury, York, Birmingham, Mold, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Richmond, Peterborough, Aberdeen, Brighton, Dublin, Cheltenham, Bradford, Guildford and Darlington, with dates available below. Further stops are planned for June and September to November 2027.

Strangers on a Train follows two strangers who meet during a train journey, sparking an obsession with the perfect crime.

The production is dedicated to the memory of Warner, who died earlier this year. David Gilbery, CEO of Bill Kenwright Ltd, said: “We dedicate this production of Strangers on a Train to the memory of Craig Warner, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

“I had been looking forward to sharing this journey with him and greatly treasured the conversations we had about the production and his exceptional adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel. Craig’s writing is elegant, gripping and profoundly theatrical, and it has been a privilege to revisit his work in preparing this production.”

Silbert is a former artistic director of Paines Plough, Birmingham Rep and Hampstead Theatre, and was an associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Casting and further creative team members are to be announced.

The currently announced tour dates are: Theatre Royal Windsor from 15 to 16 January; Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury from 26 to 30 January; Grand Opera House, York from 2 to 6 February; Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham from 9 to 13 February; Theatr Clwyd, Mold from 16 to 20 February; Theatre Royal Glasgow from 23 to 27 February; Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh from 2 to 6 March; Richmond Theatre from 9 to 13 March; New Theatre, Peterborough from 16 to 20 March; His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen from 30 March to 3 April; Theatre Royal Brighton from 6 to 10 April; Gaiety Theatre, Dublin from 13 to 17 April; Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham from 20 to 24 April; Alhambra Theatre, Bradford from 4 to 8 May; Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford from 11 to 15 May; and Darlington Hippodrome from 18 to 22 May.
