Southwark Playhouse stages world premiere of Gods and Monsters in 2015

Producer Danielle Tarento has today announced the world premiere of Gods and Monsters, which will open at Southwark Playhouse on 5 February 2015.

The play, adapted from the same source material as the 1998 Oscar-winning film which starred Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser, will have a five week run at the venue, and is written and directed by Russell Labey.

Frankenstein director James Whale, long forgotten by the studios and in reclusive Hollywood retirement has fallen victim to a series of strokes. The only demons he fights now are in his head. Handsome new gardener, Clayton Boone, becomes an unlikely friend and unwitting player in Whale’s grand finale.

Gods and Monsters is produced by Danielle Tarento in association with Jason Haigh-Ellery, and runs from 5 February to 7 March 2015. Casting is to be announced.

Also announced in The Large at Southwark Playhouse for next year is The Cutting of the Cloth, another world premiere set in the workroom of a Savile Row tailor in 1953 and Lorca: Amor En El Jardín (Lorca: Love In The Garden) from Théâtre Sans Frontières.

They run from 11 March to 4 April and 14 to 25 April respectively.
