November 30th heralds the opening of this year’s pantomime Robin Hood as the Theatre Royal, Newcastle and once again the production will star Clive Webb and Danny Adams. The father and son double act continue to break records, year on year, at the Theatre Royal and their show last year (Cinderella) was the fastest selling pantomime in the whole country.
Clive and Danny (Friar Tuck and Robin Hood respectively) are joined by (in what has almost become a repertory company) Clive Hayward (Dame), Steve Arnott (The Sheriff) and Phil Corbitt (The Henchman) . While Tupele Dorgu (Kelly Crabtree from Coronation Street) joins the cast this year as The Sorceress.
Michael Harrison, Managing Director of Qdos Pantomimes, who has written, produced and directed each pantomime starring Danny and Clive at the Theatre Royal, promises this year’s show will feature fire, rain effects, the return of 3D and a spectacular flying dragon.
With ticket sales being ten percent up on this period last year and the theatre industry itself acknowledging the Theatre Royal has the best pantomimes in the country year after year, Robin Hood is expected to be bigger and better than its five processors. Each year the record breaking pantomimes seem impossible to top, but Michael Harrison, with Clive and Danny, manage to bring more magic, laughter and mayhem to the stage every Christmas and Robin Hood promises to be no exception.
