Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to be revived at the National Theatre, with cast revealed

National Theatre deputy artistic director Robert Hastie will direct a revival of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Mawaan Rizwan (Rosencrantz) and George Fouracres (Guildenstern) will star in the title roles of Tom Stoppard’s play, running in the National’s Lyttelton in the winter of 2026.

The story focuses on two minor figures from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, exploring their experiences offstage whilst the events of the tragedy unfold around them. The staging marks 60 years since the work premiered, following its initial London and Broadway runs in 1967.

It was last seen in the vicinity of the National in an Old Vic production with Daniel Radcliffe and Joshua McGuire in 2017.

The production forms part of the venue’s upcoming season, marking a return for Stoppard’s drama to the South Bank. Specific dates, creative team and on-sale details are to be revealed, though the show is slated for the end of the year.
