The Rose Theatre Kingston has announced its Christmas production and two further new Rose Theatre Productions in 2013, with Richard Bean’s black comedy Smack Family Robinson, Noel Coward’s The Vortex and Christmas show Cinderella the Midnight Princess.

The theatre will also play host to Propeller’s The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night as well as Northern Broadside’s Rutherford & Son directed by Sir Jonathan Miller in Spring of next year.

Richard Bean’s black comedy Smack Family Robinson centres on the Robinson family, who have run a successful – and dodgy – business since the 1960s. Bean’s other plays include One Man, Two Guvnors, Toast and Harvest. Smack Family Robinson runs at the theatre from 3 April – 20 April 2013 (previews from 28 March).

Adapted by Charles Way and directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, Cinderella The Midnight Princess tells the magical classic Cinderella story with humour and the music of Mozart. It runs from 7 December 2012 – 6 January 2013 (previews from 30 November).

Noel Coward’s The Vortex was described as ‘un peu shocking’ and was his first great success. In association with Kingston University and directed by Stephen Unwin, it runs from 13 February – 9 March 2013 (previews from 7 February).

Artistic director Stephen Unwin said: “On the eve of our fifth birthday, the Rose announces a series of home-grown productions as well as visiting work from around the country. I believe that the Rose is getting stronger all the time and is delivering on its extraordinary promise.”
