Are you ready for Bremner, Bird and Fortune: The Musical? TV impressionist Rory Bremner has hinted that a stage musical version of his Channel show may be on the cards. “We rewrite lyrics a lot and I’ve often wondered about, instead of just doing songs at the end, doing a set of songs,” he said recently, adding: “There’s a little project in the background.”
Bremner, and his sketch show collaborators John Bird and John Fortune, brought Rory Bremner and Friends, a non-musical live spin-off of their screen series, to the West End’s Albery Theatre (now the Noel Coward) six years ago (See News, 17 Jun 2002). Bremner’s other stage credits include new opera translations of Weill’s Der Silbersee and Bizet’s Carmen at Wilton’s Music Hall (See News, 23 May 2001). More recently, he penned a new version of Bertolt Brecht’s A Respectable Wedding for The Big Brecht Fest at the Young Vic last year (See News, 5 Jul 2006).
