Paul Daniels dies aged 77

Magician and entertainer Paul Daniels has died at the age of 77 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Daniels found international fame with his television series The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran on the BBC from 1979 to 1994.

Other television credits include hosting several series during the 80s and 90s including Odd One Out, Every Second Counts and Wipeout

In addition to his work on TV, his stage show has toured internationally and ran in London's West End for 14 months. He also starred in a West End production of The Magic Man in 1994 and created special effects for shows including The Phantom of the Opera.

In 2010 he featured in the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing, and in 2011 his Edinburgh show Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow received largely positive reviews.

Daniels has also been a regular on the pantomime scene including playing The Emperor alongside wife Debbie McGee in Aladdin at the Ipswich Regent last year.

A statement from his publicist said: "One of our most beloved entertainers, Paul Daniels, has passed away at the age of 77.

"The TV star passed away peacefully at home with Debbie at his side in the early hours of this morning.

"Debbie and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and asks that their privacy be respected at this sad time."
