The revival received solid reviews when it played off-Broadway
Lorraine Hansberry’s drama The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window will receive a rare Broadway revival this spring. The 80-performance run begins on 25 April at the James Earl Jones Theatre in advance of a 27 April opening.
This production comes to Broadway straight from an acclaimed run at Brooklyn Academy of Music. Directed by Anne Kauffman, the Broadway mounting will feature the full BAM cast led by Oscar Isaac (Dune) as Sidney Brustein and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvellous Mrs Maisel) as Iris Parodus Brustein, alongside Miriam Silverman as Mavis Parodus, Glenn Fitzgerald as David Ragin, Julian De Niro as Alton Scales, Andy Grotelueschen as Wally O’Hara, Gus Birney as Gloria Parodus, and Raphael Nash Thompson as Max.
The design team includes dots (sets), Brenda Abbandandolo (costumes), John Torres (lighting), Bray Poor (sound), Leah Loukas (hair and wigs), and Andrew Diaz (props). Arminda Thomas is the dramaturg and Sonya Tayeh is the movement director.
Kauffman first directed the 1964 drama at the Goodman Theatre in 2016. Reviewing the 2023 staging, our sibling site TheaterMania’s critic said, “Kauffman’s thrilling staging — led by the terrific Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan — brings Hansberry’s words to life with the urgency of something written yesterday.”
The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window is a late entry into the 2022-2023 Broadway season, and thus will be eligible for Tony Award nominations that will be announced a week later.
