Original Hamilton Broadway recording to be bought by Netflix?

According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, a bidding war has started for a silver-screen version of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton.

Rather than a film adaptation, studios are said to be bidding for the recording of the 2016 stage production, which starred Miranda as the titular character alongside Leslie Odom Jr, Philippa Soo and Jonathan Groff. Reports close to negotiations say that Warner Bros, Twentieth Century Fox and Netflix all have their hats in the ring, with a potential pricetag of $50 million. It was announced this week that Netflix recently bought the recording of Bruce Springsteen's one-man Broadway show, Springsteen on Broadway.

Hamilton, based on the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has so far won 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy, a Pulitzer, with the West End production recently receiving six Olivier Awards. The London production runs at the Victoria Palace Theatre, starring Jamael Westman, Giles Terera and Rachelle-Ann Go. Sarah Crompton described the show as "a heart-breaking work of staggering genius that changes the form of musical theatre for ever."

Though the musical has been recorded, it isn't expected that it will be seen on screen before 2020, so it'll be a while before your Hamilton cravings are satisfied!
