OperaUpClose Announces Extension for Bohème

So well-received has OperaUpClose’s opening production been at the Cock Tavern, Kilburn (see our review here) that they’ve announced a third extension to the run of La bohème, which means it will now play until 12 April. This represents a third month of extra performances due to the demand for tickets.

Set up last year to give opera a whole new dimension, the venture is thrilling not just operagoers but regular drinkers at the pub, who get to see the second act of Puccini’s opera, relocated to the real-life bar, on a nightly basis.

Founded by Adam Spreadbury-Maher, the company succeed brilliantly with their inaugural production, stripping La bohème to its essentials and wittily updating it to present-day Kilburn.

The production is directed by Robin Norton-Hale and involves a revolving cast of young professional singers. Tickets are only £15 (concessions £10) with a limited number per show at just £5.

The venue, with a fast-growing reputation as London’s latest pub theatre (winner of the 2009 Dan Crawford Pub Theatre Award), is located in Kilburn High Road, and is well served by public transport. Box office: 08444 771 000 / www.cocktaverntheatre.com
