Tanya Ronder’s new play ”F*ck the Polar Bears” will receive its world premiere
Two new productions have been announced by the Bush Theatre; the world premiere of F*ck the Polar Bears by Tanya Ronder, and the European premiere of Forget Me Not by Tom Holloway.
Running from 11 September to 24 October 2015, F*ck the Polar Bears is billed as a "funny and surreal new family drama about the power of the individual in a world obscured by politics". It centres on a successful career couple who are forced to ask "whether the life they desire is worth its cost". The director is still to be announced.
Ronder, whose husband Rufus Norris recently took over as artistic director of the National Theatre, has previously written and adapted acclaimed plays including Dara, Liolà, Table (NT), and the WhasOnStage Award nominated Vernon God Little (Young Vic).
F*ck the Polar Bears is followed by Forget Me Not (8 December-16 January), a co-production between the Bush and HighTide Festival Theatre. It explores the story of over 3,000 British children who, between 1945 and 1968, were told they were orphans and sent to institutions in Australia.
According to press material: "Tom Holloway's tender new play unearths a secret buried by time that, in turn, exposes a world of historical injustices currently in the limelight."
Holloway is an award-winning Australian playwright whose plays include Beyond the Neck, Don't Say the Words and Red Sky Morning. Forget Me Not is directed by Steven Atkinson.
As previously announced, the Bush's 2015 season also features The Invisible by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, centring on the current government's controversial reforms to legal aid, and the soon-to-open transfer of James Graham's The Angry Brigade.
