Musical Theatre House Party cabaret series to run at The Other Palace

Matthew Harvey will host a new cabaret series, Musical Theatre House Party, at the Other Palace Studio on Sunday 25 October.

Harvey, a composer and performer who is currently standby for Sam Ryder’s Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium, will host the first edition of the series.

The evening will feature two West End performers, who will be presented with a set list they have not seen in advance. They will be joined by a live band and a musical guest, with the full line-up to be announced.

Harvey explains the concept: “I’ve had the privilege of hanging out and playing music with a lot of amazing musical theatre performers. I’ve always wanted to bring this informal, spontaneous musical energy into a performance of some kind and Musical Theatre House Party seemed like the perfect opportunity to do this.

“It’s somewhere between Graham Norton and a Tiny Desk concert, with a bit of Saturday Night Live thrown in for good measure. I think for performers, taking the need for preparation and polish out of a cabaret performance might be a welcome change, and for audiences it’s a chance to see their favourite musical theatre performers in an intimate setting where they just get to be themselves.”

Harvey began composing during the pandemic alongside his performing career, which has included appearances in a number of West End musicals. His work as a composer has been performed at venues including Hackney Empire, Birmingham Hippodrome and Chichester Festival Theatre.
