New musical Unbound to release live album on Halloween

A live cast recording of Matthew Harvey’s new musical Unbound will be released on 31 October to coincide with Halloween.

The album was captured during the show’s concert staging at London’s Hoxton Hall in 2024.

Harvey, who is currently appearing in the West End production of Just For One Day, wrote and composed the show, which centres on Iris, a home-schooled teenager whose first taste of high school life at Black Lake High goes awry when a prank accidentally unleashes an ancient witch.

The recording features Courtney Stapleton, Lauren Byrne, Evelyn Hoskins, Jodie Jacobs, Dylan Mason, Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly, Maia Gough, Jaina Brock-Patel, Meesha Turner, and Ernest Stroud, with Emanuel Alba as Coach Green and Officer Evans, and Adam Pearce as Narrator. Harvey performs as part of the onstage band alongside Dejeanté Hinks on guitar and Ollie Jones on keys.

Originally commissioned by British Youth Music Theatre in 2023, Unbound premiered at Birmingham Hippodrome in August 2024 as part of the company’s 20th anniversary season. It was later presented in concert form at Hoxton Hall that October, directed by Ryan Carter, who previously collaborated with Harvey on Now or Never in 2021. The creative team also included Alex Musgrave (lighting design), Ryan James (sound design), and Mark Hartley from the Production Office as consultant production manager.

Speaking about the release, Harvey said: “Self-producing the concert at Hoxton Hall a year ago was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and being able to relive that night through this record feels incredibly special. I’m so grateful to Ryan, our incredible cast, and everyone who came together to make that evening happen. It’s been amazing to see the Unbound family continue to grow while mixing the album with Spiritland Productions — the brilliant team behind the sound of Magic at the Musicals. They’ve truly brought these songs to life in a whole new way.”

The Unbound live concert cast recording will be available on all major streaming platforms from 31 October 2025.
