The musical version of the iconic Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street will run at Liverpool Playhouse this December.

Directed by the Everyman and Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz, the musical has book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, and is based on George Seaton's original '40s screenplay (which was re-made for the screen in 1994 starring Richard Attenborough).

Set between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, the piece follows a man, Kris Kringle, who claims to be the true Santa Claus. It features classic festive hits including "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas".

Willson's musical was originally titled Here's Love and initially opened in 1963. His other shows include The Music Man (which will be revived on Broadway in 2020 starring Hugh Jackman) and 1491.

The piece runs from 7 December to 4 January 2020, with cast and creative team to be announced.
