The ”Lewis” star will open in a new production of Tom Stoppard’s classic play
Laurence Fox is to star in a new production of Tom Stoppard's play The Real Thing in a UK tour.
Beginning in September, the production opens at Cambridge Arts Theatre (6 to 16 September) before touring to Theatre Royal Bath (18 to 30 September) and the Rose Theatre Kingston (2 to 14 October).
The production will be directed by Stephen Unwin, who was artistic director of the Rose Theatre for five years. The Real Thing was first staged in the West End in 1982 and subsequently won the Tony Award for Best Play.
The piece follows Henry, one of the best playwrights of his generation, and his actress wife Charlotte, who is starring in one of his plays. Henry's affair with another actress Annie, whose husband is starring opposite Charlotte, leads to life imitating art and rocks both their marriages.
Fox's other stage roles include Strangers on a Train and Our Boys. Unwin founded English Touring Theatre and his previous credits include Moon Tiger and Present Laughter.
The Real Thing opens at the Cambridge Arts Theatre from 6 September and then tours the UK.
