Gavin and Stacey actor and previous WhatsOnStage Awards host and winner James Corden will host this year's Tony Awards.

This will be Corden's first time as host of the awards and follows a successful year, which saw him gaining high profile success in America after taking over The Late Late Show.

Corden won a Tony in 2012 for his role in Richard Bean's comedy One Man, Two Guvnors.

The Tony Awards are the US equivalent of the Olivier Awards and will be broadcast on June 12.

Corden said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards. Both times I've worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it to be a huge honor to be asked to host such an incredible night. It's going to be fun; I can't wait to dust off my tap shoes!"

The actor starred in a film adaptation of Into the Woods in 2014.

Corden has hosted the BRIT Awards five times since 2009.
