Haunted tales revisit Liverpool in 2010

Dramatic readings of Tom Slemen’s Haunted Liverpool books will be performed in the Concert Room within the city’s Grade I-listed St George’s Hall next March.

Following a successful pilot run at the same venue, previously used for readings by Charles Dickens, in November, the producers have decided to hold two nights in the new year featuring some familiar local actors.

Tales from Haunted Liverpool includes stories from Slemen’s Haunted Liverpool books, which have been a popular read in the city, based on volumes 3-4.

Actors will take the audience on a journey into Liverpool’s dark supernatural world bringing characters of past and present to life.

Adapted and directed by Jen Heyes (Blood Wedding), Tales from Haunted Liverpool will see the return of Brian Dodd (Wall Talks), Roy Carruthers (Night Collar), and two further guest actors to be announced.

Speaking about the reason for the return of this evening of entertainment, co-producer Bill Elms said: “Due to the success and fantastic feedback from the November show, we have decided to continue to work through the series of Tom Slemen’s books. Lovers of these books can sit back and hear these spine- chilling stories in a live interactive way and in a unique setting.”

Slemen has written 14 books of Haunted Liverpool all of which contains many tales of Liverpool’s ghostly past and present, and he has also released a new book of Haunted Wirral tales.

Tales From Haunted Liverpool runs at the Concert Room on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 March next year. Doors open at 7pm on both nights with performances at 8pm. Tickets, which cost £11.50-£13, are available at the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre box office on 0844 8000 400.
