The show begins its preview performances next week

Exclusive: George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones: The Mad King is mere days away from beginning its previews at the RSC’s Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and we can now get a sneak peek at the rehearsals in action.
Set decades before the events of Martin’s globally loved fantasy series, The Mad King tells the story of Robert’s Rebellion, beginning with a fateful tourney within the dilapidated ruins of Harrenhal. It features a variety of characters never seen on page (or screen in the award-winning TV series).
It is adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, and will run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from 23 July to 5 September 2026, with an official opening night scheduled for 8 August.
