First Look: The Globe's A Midsummer Night's Dream on screen

Shakespeare's Globe, in partnership with Arts Alliance, conclude their ‘Season of Plenty’ with the enchanting fantasy A Midsummer Night’s Dream from 15 July, joining The Tempest and Macbeth in cinemas.

Starring Olivier Award-winner Michelle Terry and John Light, and directed by Dominic Dromgoole, the Globe's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream explores the intense passions and antagonisms that lurk beneath the shimmering surface of Shakespeare’s eternally popular comedy.

The production’s stellar cast comprises Michelle Terry (Tribes, Before The Party) as Titania/Hippolyta, and John Light (Luise Miller, The Master Builder) as Oberon/Theseus, alongside Fergal McElherron as Quince/First Fairy, Pearce Quigley as Bottom and Huss Garbiya as Starveling/Fairy.

The roles of the four young lovers are played by some of London theatre’s newest and brightest talents; the role of Hermia is played by Olivia Ross who played Princess Katherine in the Globe’s 2012 production of Henry V, while Sarah MacRae also returns to the Globe as Helena following her turn as Bianca in last year’s production of The Taming of the Shrew. Newly R.A.D.A. graduated rising star Luke Thompson plays the character of Lysander with Joshua Silver, who most recently appeared in Trelawny of the Wells, in the role of Demetrius. Directed by the Globe’s artistic director Dominic Dromgoole, with music from internationally renowned composer Claire van Kampen and designs by Tony Award-nominated designer Jonathan Fensom, Dromgoole’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is inventive, warm, lively and affectionate.
