The actor returns to London in a piece celebrating the life and work of John Betjeman
Edward Fox will appear in the West End in a transfer of Hugh Whitemore's play Sand in the Sandwiches.
The actor will continue in the role of former poet laureate John Betjeman the play he opened in last year, which is directed by Gareth Armstrong. The play toured the UK in 2016 and runs in Northampton before it arrives at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in May for a week.
The one-man play celebrates the life and work of one of Britain's best loved writers and features verse by the poet.
Fox said: "It is lovely to be returning to one of the great theatres of the world and to the role of John Betjeman, even now at the age of 80. All of us involved are working to magnify the voice of one of the greatest minds in England. Betjeman once said that 'poetry is life', and I agree. You can't live without it."
The show will run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket during a break in the run of The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?, because Damian Lewis was unavailable to perform. Edward Albee's play continues performances 5 June.
After the Haymarket, the show will tour to Cambridge, Malvern, Woking, Brighton and Bath.
