Composer John Lunn and creator Julian Fellowes are planning a musical stage show
Downton Abbey composer John Lunn has revealed that he and its creator Julian Fellowes are planning a musical stage show based around the programme.
The project, which Lunn told US radio station Billboard there is a "75 percent chance" of happening, would be a live show featuring music from Downton Abbey along with cast members reciting scenes, in a similar vein to the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular which toured the UK earlier this year.
According to Lunn, "70 percent" of the music would be from Downton, and there could also be "some Elgar… some jazz of the periods".
The news will come as a relief to fans upset at the thought of missing their Downton fix when it ends after its sixth series later this year.
If a tour does go ahead, it could be lucrative. LA-based Laura Knapp, vice president of Social Reality, told The Mirror: "A musical tour of a TV show is unusual, but this drama has been such a phenomenon that this will be a hit. This tour could play dozens of big venues across America and easily make several million dollars. Around the world a short tour could bring in $10 million easily".
