Disney Live! Mickey’s Rockin’ Road Show provides something for all the family

Mickey’s Rockin’ Roadshow is the latest Disney Live offering from producers Feld Entertainment. In this high energy, live stage spectacular, we see Mickey Mouse and his friends, Donald, Goofy and Minnie take a fun-packed road trip to try to find some characters to perform in their talent show. Setting off on their Mickey Mouse bus, Mickey and the rest of the gang encounter a series of misadventures before eventually rounding up a few of their friends and our Disney favourites to take part in the talent show.

A giant projection screen is used to create the illusion of the movement of Mickey’s bus on stage. A number of different digital environments are used, including an underwater scene and the wild west. This animated design supports the feeling that the audience are watching a Disney cartoon come to life and allows a smooth flow of action between each of the characters different worlds.

Mickey’s Roadshow manages to incorporate all of the humour and clowning that we know from the original Disney cartoons. It also stars Cinderella, her two crafty stepsisters, traditional favourite Tigger and some of the hit tunes from the original Disney musical catalog. The Toy Story characters and their circus skills act seemed to be the biggest hit with the audience. Woody and Jessie’s costumes are impressive and have an authentic plastic toy look to them. However, I felt that Buzz Lightyear really needed slightly more padding to create the larger than life character that we know from the Pixar films.

This bright musical show really encourages audience participation and with a lot of bopping, swaying and clapping to be seen, there is no doubt that children and grown-ups alike seem to enjoy the interactive experience.

However, just a word of warning – there is a lot of very expensive merchandise on sale before, during and after the show which your children will ask, plead and beg for and so I would either ensure that you have a full wallet or a quick word with your children before heading out to the show.
