An announcement was made earlier this week in Las Vegas that could have exciting implications for the worldwide profile of British theatre.

At the CinemaCon meeting at Caesars Palace in Vegas, Whatsonstage.com Awards sponsor Digital Theatre announced it has joined forces with CinemaLive to make its rapidly expanding collection of shows available for distribution to cinemas worldwide.

Though exact titles are still to be confirmed, an insider told Whatsonstage.com that it will include the “best of the existing catalogue” and as well as some exciting yet-to-be-announced new shows.

CinemaLive director Peter Skillman said: “We know how attractive West End theatre productions are to exhibitors looking to bring their audiences must-see Event Cinema and we are thrilled to be able to satisfy this need.”

The first screenings will be shown in September. We’ll be sure to keep you posted when further details become available…
