David Hare's The Permanent Way to open in site specific production in The Vaults

David Hare's play The Permanent Way is to open in a site specific production later this year.

It is the first revival of the play since it ran in York in 2003 and then subsequently at the National Theatre in 2004. The piece will run at The Vaults under Waterloo Station from 13 September to 17 November.

Alexander Lass directs the piece, which looks at disaster arising from the privatisation of Britain's railways. It is told through first-hand accounts of people involved at every level – including passengers and civil servants.

Hare said: "It's wonderful that Debbie Hicks and Alexander Lass are mounting the first London revival of The Permanent Way. In 2004 feelings were still very raw from the loss of so many lives in the crashes which followed privatisation of the railways. It will be fascinating to find a perspective on that mix of government incompetence and private greed today."

Set and costume for the show is by Ruth Hall, lighting by Rick Fisher, sound by Roly Witherow, movement by Siân Williams and casting by Ellie Collyer-Bristow CDG.
