Cush Jumbo returns to RET in A Doll’s House, 1 May

Cush Jumbo is set to star in a major revival of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre next month.

Recently nominated for an Olivier Award as ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ for playing Mark Antony in the Donmar Warehouse’s all female production of Julius  Caesar.  Her previous Royal Exchange credits also include Pygmalion and As You Like It.

This new production sees her play Nora, a young wife and mother who is married to Torvald, recently promoted to a high level position in banking. Life seems content and settled until their marriage is threatened when a terrible secret from Nora’s past comes back to haunt her and she begins to question their world.

Henrik Ibsen’s ground-breaking play is widely regarded as a landmark of the modern stage. A story of domestic revolution, female empowerment and the journey towards self-liberation it queries aspirations, success and what it means to raise a happy family.

A Doll’s House is directed by Greg Hersov and the cast also includes Tessa Bell-Briggs as Anne-Marie; Amy Cameron as Helene; Jamie De Courcey as Dr Rank; Kelly Hotten as Mrs Linde; David Sturzaker as Helmer and Jack Tarlton as Krogstad.

Helen Goddard  has designed the piece, Richard Howell is on lighting and Emma Laxton takes care of sound.

A Doll’s House is at the Royal Exchange from 1 May – 1 June.
