Ever wondered what a conductor is doing, exactly? Or how an opera production with world-class singers works behind the scenes?

English conductor Ivor Bolton, currently in rehearsals for Handel’s Tamerlano at the Royal Opera House, does not intend to keep this exciting experience to himself. Following up on his acclaimed 2009 Salzburg Festival blog, Ivor Bolton joins the blogging community once again.

Ivor Bolton is one of the most acclaimed and internationally active English conductors. Chief conductor of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra since 2004, he also regularly appears in the world’s most famous concert halls and opera houses, including Covent Garden, Paris, Vienna, Munich and New York.

Having performed for 10 years in a row at the renowned Salzburg Festival (conducting no less than 18 performances in 2009!), he is the only English conductor having been so preeminent on the Salzburg stage. Ivor Bolton is known for his affinity towards Baroque music; he is music director of the St James Baroque players and the Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music. However, his versatile musical repertoire encompasses everything from Handel to Janacek.
