Bowen Yang to star in Oh, Mary! on Broadway

Bowen Yang will make his Broadway acting debut this autumn, joining the cast of Oh, Mary! as Mary Todd Lincoln for a limited 12-week engagement.

The Saturday Night Live cast member and co-host of the Las Culturistas podcast will begin performances at the Lyceum Theatre on 15 September 2026, with his run continuing until 6 December.

Yang succeeds Meg Stalter, whose final performance is scheduled for 12 September. Hannah Solow will play Mary Todd Lincoln on 13 September before Yang takes over the role. He joins a line-up of performers who have played the part since the comedy opened, including playwright Cole Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, John Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph and Stalter.

In a statement, Yang said: “My friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of Les Misérables sung in Dutch. But being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, Oh, Mary! is my favourite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.”

Yang will appear alongside Phillip James Brannon as Mary’s Husband, Barrett Foa as Mary’s Teacher, Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone and returning original cast member Tony Macht as Mary’s Teacher’s Assistant.

Producers have also announced a new booking period for the Tony Award-winning comedy, with tickets now on sale through 10 July 2027. Originally announced as a limited engagement, the production continues to run at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre following its opening in July 2024. It is also playing in London’s West End and will launch a North American tour later this year.

Oh, Mary! is written by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton. The show was recently recorded with Escola during a West End season – where it continues to play at Trafalgar Theatre.
