Sharon Small will make her Almeida debut alongside Olivier winner Noma Dumezweni
Casting has been announced for the Almeida's upcoming UK premiere of Carmen Disruption, Simon Stephens' "dramatic reimagining" of Bizet's Carmen.
The cast will include Olivier Award winner Noma Dumezweni (A Raisin in the Sun), alongside John Light (Taken At Midnight) and Jack Farthing (The Riot Club).
Sharon Small, whose TV credits include Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife, will make her Almeida debut alongside mezzo-soprano Viktoria Vizin, who completed her 100th performance of Carmen at the Budapest State Opera House in 2012.
The cast is completed by Katie West (Hamlet, Royal Exchange), Jamie Cameron (Once the Musical) and Harry Napier (Macbeth of Fire and Ice, Arcola).
According to press material, Stephens' "strange and beautiful new play explores the possibility of love in a fractured urban world."
Carmen Disruption will be directed by Michael Longhurst, designed by Lizzie Clachan, with lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Carolyn Downing, movement by Imogen Knight and new music composed by Simon Slater.
Casting is by Anne McNulty and Sarah Playfair, dramaturgy by Pia Furtado, costume supervision by Jemima Penny and the assistant director is Jude Christian.
