Complicité’s ”The Encounter” also returns in their new season
Award-winning theatre company Complicité's production of A Pacificist's Guide to the War on Cancer, written by performance artist Bryony Kimmings, will embark on a UK tour in 2018.
The news came as the company announces plans for 2018, which includes a return to the Barbican for Simon McBurney's The Encounter from 14 April to 5 May. The one-man show, which debuted at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2015, is a Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Tony Award winner, and in our five star review, the show was described as 'a demonstration of storytelling at its very best'. The show will then tour to venues across Europe.
A Pacifist's Guide, which debuted at the National Theatre in 2016, will begin its tour at the Liverpool Everyman from 26 January to 3 February, before going to the Newcastle Northern Stage (7 to 10 February) and the Coventry Belgrade Theatre (14 to 17 February).
The show discusses the ways in which we approach the topic of cancer. Our review of the piece's National Theatre run applauded its 'rare bravery and a constant willingness to experiment with form'.
The company has also announced it will now work in collaboration with theatre company The Wardrobe Ensemble as part of the Complicité Associates programme. Since 2011 the Wardrobe Ensemble have made four full company shows, RIOT, 33, 1972: The Future of Sex and Education, Education, Education.
A Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer will tour to Liverpool, Newcastle and Coventry from 26 January to 17 February. The Encounter will run at the Barbican from 14 April to 5 May.
