A Christmas Carol revival at Birmingham Rep announces full casting

The ghoulish adaptation will open next month

Birmingham Rep has announced its complete casting for two upcoming holiday productions, A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story and The Snowflake, running from November 2024 through January 2025.

The Rep’s production of A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story, directed by Adam Penford and adapted from Charles Dickens by Mark Gatiss, will include Rufus Hound as Jacob Marley and Matthew Cottle as Ebenezer Scrooge.

The production also features Karendip Phull in the roles of Caroline and Mrs Bonniface, Lance West as Fred, Young Scrooge, and Peter Cratchit, and Kalifa Taylor as Belle and various other characters. Oscar Batterham will play Bob Cratchit, Grace Hogg-Robinson will appear as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Mark Theodore will take on the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present. Olivia-Faith Kamau and Iverson Yabut are also cast as on-stage swings.

Returning from the original Nottingham Playhouse production are Geoffrey Beevers as the Narrator, Rebecca Trehearn as Mrs Cratchit, and Ryan Weston as Tiny Tim.

The production’s creative team includes Paul Wills as set designer, Philip Gladwell as lighting designer, Ella Wahlström as sound designer, Nina Dunn as video designer, Georgina Lamb as movement director, and Tom Attwood as musical director.

Matthew Forbes is puppet designer and director, with Tingying Dong as composer, and Ginny Schiller as casting director.
