Unexpected Joy's Jodie Jacobs: a week in the life at Southwark Playhouse

Jodie Jacobs is currently starring in Unexpected Joy, which opened this week at Southwark Playhouse.The piece is a new musical from Bill Russell and Janet Hood about the story of three generations of female singers who all come together over a week. Jacobs' other credits include Myth at the Other Palace, Bananaman at Southwark Playhouse, Legally Blonde at the Gatehouse and Carrie at Southwark Playhouse. Here she guides us through one of her weeks leading up to the tech day of Unexpected Joy.

Do Not Disturb

JJ: Janet Fullerlove, (who plays Joy in Unexpected Joy) and me sparko on the floor during a 15 min rehearsal disco break. Classy AND professional. You can't learn it. It just comes naturally.

Fixing in Foils

JJ: Me in foils with my beautiful friend, Katie Shalka. She came with me to get my hair fixed cos it was a horror story and I was nervous. They gave us crisps and pails of gin. It was wonderful. Thank you Tash Newman, you Wizard! Bona riah, dolly!

Legs 11, Unlucky for Some

JJ: Friday night Musical Bingo at White City House with Omar Baroud, Becky and Ryan Forde Iosco. We did not win. But we did Martini. And the photos got MUCH blurrier than this within about 20 mins. There is definitely not a video of Ryan dancing provocatively with a velvet drape. (There is.)

Saturday was an unexpected and very spoiled day off! I met my Ralph Bogard and he bought me dinner and sent me on my way to meet my buddy Roz who took me to see the final performance of Fun Home. Sweet Baby CHEESES it was good! Classy and moving. I blubbed deeply. Look how chic Kaisa Hammarlund looks!!
