Strictly Ballroom cast to include Anna Francolini and Gerard Horan

Drew McOnie’s production is due to open at the Piccadilly in March

Further casting has been announced for the upcoming adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's classic Strictly Ballroom.

Anna Francolini and Gerard Horan joinJonny Labey, Zizi Strallen and Will Young. Francolini will play Shirley Hastings while Horan will play Barry Fife.

Francolini's credits include wonder.land at the National Theatre, That Day We Sang at the Royal Exchange and Peter Pan at the National Theatre. Horan was recently seen at the Royal Court in The Ferryman and other credits include The Vote (Donmar) and The Christmas Truce for the RSC.

The piece was adapted for the stage by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, created by Luhrmann and Catherine Martin and originally ran in Australia. The show is an adaptation of the hit film which tells of the world of ballroom dancing in Australia where Scott manages to get through to the Pan Pacific Championships with left-footed partner Fran.

The rest of the cast includes Michelle Bishop, Ivan De Freitas, Gabriela Garcia, Charlotte Gooch, Richard Grieve, Liam Marcellino, Stephen Matthews, Fernando Mira, Eve Polycarpou, Lauren Stroud, Gary Watson, Chris Bennett, Chrissy Brooke, Hannah Fairclough, Selina Hamilton, Christopher D Hunt, Luke Jackson, Justin-Lee Jones, Robin Kent, Jacob Maynard, Leanne Pinder, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda and Dale White.

The film features songs such as "Love is in the Air", "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" and "Time After Time".

McOnie directs and choreographs this production which opened in the UK at West Yorkshire Playhouse in December 2016.

Strictly Ballroom – The Musical runs at the Piccadilly Theatre from 24 April, with previews from 29 March.
