Something Rotten!, the spoof Shakespeare musical that's just been nominated for ten Tony Awards, is rumoured to be West End-bound.

According to the Evening Standard, the show could be heading to these shores "as early as next year".

Directed by Casey Nicholaw, whose credits include The Book of Mormon, and with a book co-written by British author John O'Farrell, the show centres on two brothers, contemporaries of Shakespeare, who attempt to write the first musical.

Producer Kevin McCollum (Avenue Q), said: "The idea of a musical set in Shakespeare's time and having characters compete with him is something people are responding to. I love bringing shows to London and hope to send the show there."

Monty Python's Eric Idle told the Standard that Something Rotten! is a "Shakespearean Spamalot". McCollum will certainly be hoping it can replicate the Python show's transatlantic success…
