A preview performance of James Graham's play Quiz at the Nöel Coward Theatre was cancelled last night after a gas leak on St Martin's Lane in the West End.

Reportedly around 1,000 residents were evacuated from the area, while the English National Opera production of La Traviata at the Coliseum was also forced to close.

The leak happened just after 6pm and at 7.05pm Quiz tweeted that the company was hoping the show would still go up, before announcing at 7.26pm that the show would be cancelled that evening.

The West End production of Ruthless! was also cancelled, the Arts Theatre announced on Twitter.

People who bought tickets for the performance are being told to contact their point of purchase to rearrange a visit to the show.

James Graham, author of Quiz joined the tweets about the gas leak.
