Producer Sonia Friedman has hinted at a potential West End transfer for her latest blockbuster musical, the Broadway adaptation of Tina Fey's 2004 comedy film, Mean Girls.

The musical, which opened on Broadway last night, has been adapted by Fey with music by her husband Jeff Richmond. In his review for the New York Times, Ben Brantley praised Fey's 'caustic and polite' wit.

Talking to WhatsOnStage at the Olivier Awards on Sunday, Friedman said: "As you speak to me now, I actually should be in New York for the opening night of Mean Girls, it opens in two hours time."

"I took it over from Stuart Thompson" she added, referring to the Broadway producer who passed away last year, "It was a great honour to pick up a show from a great colleague, so I'm doing it in his name."

When asked if it was the plan to transfer the show to the West End, Friedman said: "Yeah, we'd love to… certainly, if I'm involved, it's going to happen, isn't it?"

"It's by the same director as Dreamgirls, Casey Nicholaw, and of course I also produced Funny Girl, so with Mean Girls, Dreamgirls and Funny Girl, we get really confused."

The show, which features many of the shows much-loved quotes, has songs including "Meet the Plastics", "Apex Predator" and "Revenge Party".
