Robert Icke's Mary Stuart will transfer to the West End next year, starring Lia Williams and Juliet Stevenson.

The production ran at the Almeida in December last year, and sees Williams and Stevenson flip a coin before each performance to decide who will play Mary Stuart, and who will play Elizabeth I.

Stevenson is currently appearing in Icke's Hamlet, and prior to the Almeida run of Mary Stuart, Williams most recently appeared in Oresteia for which she received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress.

Further casting is to be announced.

Reviewing the original production for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton said: "Icke makes it speak so powerfully to our times, while never losing track of those in which it belongs."

After the West End run, the production will tour to Theatre Royal Bath (4 to 14 April), Salford Lowry (17 to 21 April) and Cambridge Arts Theatre (23 to 28 April).
