Lynette Linton has been announced as the new artistic director of the Bush Theatre.

Linton, who will direct the award-winning Sweat at the Donmar Warehouse next month and co-direct Richard II at the Globe next year, is also co-founder of theatre and film production company Black Apron Entertainment.

Linton will succeed the current artistic director Madani Younis when he takes up the role of creative director at the Southbank Centre. She will start in the role in January 2019 and said: "The Bush Theatre is such an important venue and I have seen some of my favourite ever plays in this building. I am so honoured to be stepping into this role after the amazing tenure of Madani Younis, who has been an inspiration to me from the beginning of my career."

Younis added: "Lynette is undoubtedly a fantastic choice for the Bush. I've admired her for a long time and it's been a pleasure to watch her grow as a director and an artist and her work shows a real commitment to the theatre's values."

The west London venue was recently refurbished, with its production of Misty by Arinzé Kene currently running in the West End. Younis' final season has seen a 40 per cent increase in attendance on the previous year, with 52 per cent of the audience visiting the venue for the first time.
