Charlotte Spencer will replace Helen George in Love in Idleness when it transfers to the West End from the Menier Chocolate Factory later this month.

Spencer, who played Christine Keeler in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Stephen Ward, will take over the role of Diana when Trevor Nunn's production opens at the Apollo Theatre on 11 May.

She joins Eve Best, Edward Bluemel, Anthony Head, Vivienne Rochester and Nicola Sloane.

Terence Rattigan's play is about an 18 year-old who returns home after a four year absence to find his widowed mother the mistress of a member of Winston Churchill's cabinet.

When the show opened in March, WhatsOnStage's Sarah Crompton gave the play five stars, saying: "The whole thing is performed with a real sense of period tone and comic timing but also with finely calibrated sense of the powerful emotions at work."
