American legend Anna Deavere Smith will no longer perform her Notes From the Field at the Edinburgh International Festival.

The one-woman production was scheduled to run at the Church Hill Theatre in Edinburgh from 6 to 18 August. She has been forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict.

Notes From the Field is still due to play at the Royal Court from 13 to 23 June this year as part of LIFT Festival.

Deavere Smith gave this statement about the cancellation: "I am deeply honoured by the invitation to perform my work at the Edinburgh International Festival this year, and regret that due to immovable, conflicting professional obligations, I will not be able to make this appearance and share in this wellspring of imagination. It is my sincere hope that in coming seasons I can."

Ticket holders will be refunded in full and have been advised to contact the festival directly.

Notes From the Field is Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning play which is drawn from interviews with over 250 students, parents, teachers and staff in the USA's school-to-prison pipeline.

Deavere Smith is known for her role in The West Wing and was awarded the National Humanities Medal by Barack Obama.
