Wyllie Longmore directs Sister George at Lowry Studio

Acclaimed actor Wyllie Longmore (pictured) is bringing the classic, The Killing Of Sister George to the Lowry later this month.

This dark adult comedy follows actress June Buckridge as she discovers that Sister George, the much-loved character she plays in the popular radio soap opera Applehurst, is about to be killed off. Already volatile and difficult to work with, June’s behaviour becomes increasingly paranoid to the consternation of her live-in companion, Childie, and her employer, Mrs Croft.

First seen in London’s West End in 1965 and later filmed under the same title, The Killing of Sister George (with Beryl Reid and Susannah York) still packs a powerful satiric punch.

The cast includes Tara Daniels and Hazel Earle.

The Killing Of Sister George runs at the Lowry from 24 -26 September and more details are found here.
