Five Reasons To See….OUT at Taurus
Emma Willcox is a recognisable face on the fringe theatre scene in Manchester, particularly her strong association with local theatre group, Vertigo. Gaining good reviews for her performances in the UK Premiere of Dog Sees God; Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead at Taurus and The Lowry and in the hit thriller ‘M’, Emma returns to Vertigo for OUT! which marks her fifth production with the company. She plays the role of Rachel, a young gay woman whose relationship with her partner is pushed to breaking point. Here, Emma gives us her five reasons to see the play.
1. The Experience
It’s always a great experience when you go to watch any live show whether it be in a West End theatre or a city arena, but for me the best experience is when the show has an intimate setting. This way you feel that you are really involved in the characters and the story line and it adds that extra something to the show. As OUT is set in the Gay Village and is also playing at Taurus Bar on Canal Street it gives this show that extra something and sets the atmosphere perfectly.
2. The Cast
One important reason to come and see this show, if not only for a great drama that you will experience, is to see some great performances by a very talented cast. We have a mixture of Vertigo regulars and new cast members, some of whom wil be making their stage debuts. The rehearsal period for this show has been long and challenging for everyone that has been involved, but it is all made worthwhile when we get to see the audiences reactions to the play and our performances. For me there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a happy and entertained audience, so come down and be entertained.
3. The Writing
This is a brilliant play created by Craig Hepworth and Adele Stanhope and it is a great story that follows a close group of friends with moments of comedy, drama and tragedy. This is a great show that has something that everyone can enjoy. It’s also a gay play that instead of pushing issues, it simply shows these characters dealing with life.
4. Hot Night Out
We are now moving away from the dark and cold winter months and I can’t think of a better way to kick of your summer than coming to see an exciting new play. So tuck away those big winter coats and gloves to the back of the wardrobe, and crack out the filp-flops and hand fans, and join the cast of OUT and get that summer feeling.
5. Bargain Prices
At the reasonable price of only £8.00 for a ticket to see this soon to be sell out show, it is a great opportunity to get out of the house and let your hair down, without breaking the bank which is hard to do in a recession. And as the show will be playing on Canal Street it’s a great excuse to hit some of those fabulous clubs after to dance the night away…. you will probably see most of the cast soaking up the party atmosphere of Canal Street after the show as well (well it would be rude not to).
OUT! runs at Taurus from 10 – 12 June.
Currently, the play is off sale at Quaytickets, as most nights are sold out. But the venue is selling walk in and cancellation tickets from 7pm on the night of each performance.
