Regent Centre goes into orbit!

Following their sell out success of live satellite broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York and from the National Theatre in London, the Regent in Christchurch has announced that it will be launching the Glyndebourne Cinema Season Summer 2010 of three operas, and a live theatre broadcast from the Edinburgh Festival, all of which can be seen on the big screen at the Centre in August.

The three operas to come from the world famous opera house in the heart of the Sussex countryside will be: The Rake’s Progress by Stravinsky (Saturday 21 August 6.30 pm – beamed live from Glyndebourne); Billy Budd by Benjamin Britten (Tuesday 24 August 6.30 pm – a recorded performance); and Hansel & Gretel by Humperdinck (Thursday 26 August 6.30 pm – also recorded)

This is an outstanding opportunity to see these three superlative operas, which are already sold out at Glyndebourne.

There’s also a chance to enjoy all the excitement and vibrancy of the internationally renowned Edinburgh Festival live by satellite at the Regent.

One of the highlights of the Festival will be Traverse Theatre and their latest production – Impossible Things Before Breakfast – which will be live on the big screen at the Regent on Monday 23 August at 7 pm. Impossible Things Before Breakfast is made up of five specially commissioned new plays by Marina Carr, David Eldridge, Linda McLean, Simon Stephens and Enda Walsh.
