Meta Morpho premieres Devil at NTR

Meta Morpho, a new theatre company created by Toby Wilsher, co-founder and Artistic Director of Trestle Theatre Company, will perform the UK premiere of Devil in the Detail at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, prior to a UK tour.

Devil in the Detail first opened at Erzurum State Theatre, Turkey in 2009 and has been ‘re-imagined’ for the new UK tour with a cast of ex-Trestle and new mask actors.

Loosely based on John Morton‘s Victorian one-act farce, Box and Cox, the plot is set in a rundown part of town, where a devious landlady and her ambitious daughter make ends meet by renting out a small apartment. Not satisfied with a single rent, they manage to let out the flat to 2 men who never meet. To maintain the deception the conniving pair must keep the men apart and refurbish the room twice a day. But both the men have secrets hidden in the room, secrets that emerge with ghastly consequences.

Meta Morpho strives to bridge the gap between the expectations and experiences of theatre and cinema audiences by creating work that is rich in narrative, visual aesthetics and a sense of fun.

In the Meta Morpho toolbox are all the techniques to fully embrace ‘jumping form’ including text, masks, puppets, music and dance, all serving plays that are strong on story, emotion and character.

This unique black comedy about greed and deceit is not to be missed!

New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth 22 and 23 September at 7.30pm.
