Mead Charms with Christmas Cheer at Concert

Whatsonstage.com theatregoers from across the country braved this weekend’s treacherous weather to hear the dulcet tones of Lee Mead as he ended his UK tour with his band in London’s Coliseum on Sunday. And what a show it was – with three costume changes and a guest appearance by his Wicked co-star Rachel Tucker we were treated to a huge range of songs and some funny stories of Mead’s early life, rise to fame and family.

Expecting Christmas carols to be the order of the day it was great to be presented with a much wider range of songs. From rock classic ‘Paint It Black’ to pop favourite ‘When You Say Nothing at All’ we got to experience the full breadth of Mead’s skill. We were also treated to well-loved Webber – not too surprising considering Mead’s Any Dream Will Do win – my highlight being his moving rendition of ‘Close Every Door To Me’. Along with the well-known were some of Mead’s own songs including ‘Holding On To Letting Go’ written by himself for his album.

Following the concert, which left us all on our feet and singing along, the Whatsonstage.com theatregoers made their way to the Coliseum’s Sky Bar to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies while we waited for Lee Mead to join us. The wait was well-worth it when Mead made his way to us. He chatted with everyone and posed for many a photo, making a few ladies blush with his charm! He couldn’t stay as long as we (or he) would have liked with a new baby to get back to and snow to brave but he did have a chance to meet many of the theatregoers and, with pre-signed programmes, everyone managed to go home with a little Lee!
