Following rumours of a State-side version of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? to find the stars of a Broadway production of Grease (See The Goss, 9 Aug 2006), Andrew Lloyd Webber and BBC1 controller Peter Fincham have now announced a new programme, Any Dream Will Do, to cast a West End revival of Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The new programme is expected to follow a similar format to How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, which made Connie Fisher a household name when she was chosen by the public (following an audition process) to play Maria in The Sound of Music. Any Dream Will Do will be hosted by Graham Norton, and broadcast in summer 2007. Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical – based on the biblical story of Jacob's son Joseph and his 11 brothers – started as a school musical in 1968 and was then expanded. It received its Broadway premiere in 1982 and has been seen in the West End at the London Palladium (now home to The Sound of Music) and most recently in Bill Kenwright’s 2003 production, which ran at the New London theatre until it closed in September 2005. No dates or venue have yet been confirmed for the new production.
